SKY ONE | BRIEFING FOR INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION COMPANIES IN IRELAND
Sun 20th August 2017
Sky is looking for new content for its premier entertainment channel – Sky One.
Below is a note from Philip Edgar-Jones, Director of Sky Arts and Head of Entertainment. Following on from our visit in March with SPI Members, we have identified some areas of focus for Sky One, our premier entertainment channel.
There are three areas of focus for us:
- Factual Entertainment FormatsTime slot: 9pm Flexible in terms of number and duration.
- Scaled Entertainment Event ProgrammesTime slot: to play at 9pm Flexible in terms of number and duration.
As a broad steer for both these areas we are keen to take movie tropes and turn them into entertainment formats (e.g. Carmageddon took “Mad Max” as inspiration, while Revolution started with “Rollerball”).
We have a crime/thriller reality show in development and we are developing horror reality as an area too. So that’s all probably covered to a large degree…
We are also looking for something unique and unusual – something to get people talking. It’s always better if something feels like it exists in the real world and has authenticity rather than feeling forced for Telly. We aren’t ruling out dating if the right format should come along.
3. Comedy Entertainment
Time Slot: 10pm
Half hour durations
What We Aren’t Looking For:
- Factual series or one-off docs
- "Authored journeys”, at this stage
- Singing show (as we have one in production and one in development already)
- Studio game shows
Good luck – we look forward to hearing from you!
Very Best,
Philip Edgar-Jones, Director of Sky Arts and Head of Entertainment
