We champion the cause of independent production in Ireland.
Our work takes many forms and covers a number of strategic areas. These are Communications, Supporting Creative Entrepreneurship, Policy & Advocacy and Sectoral Development.
Communications
Our communications channels advance the position of independent production in Ireland and to celebrate the work of our members. Targeting audiences within the AV community and across wider stakeholder groups, we help to raise our sector’s profile, demonstrate its value – both economically and creatively – and build the case for increased investment in our industry. We also leverage these channels to strengthen awareness and support for SPI’s own work.

Supporting Creative Entrepreneurship
SPI members are creative entrepreneurs, and they form the backbone of the independent production sector in Ireland. To remain globally competitive, they need adequate funding and access to world-class infrastructure and talent pools. We do everything we can to inform and influence the Government and relevant stakeholders, ensuring that appropriate policies and resources are in place to support our members’ creative entrepreneurship.
The independent production sector in Ireland carries tremendous economic and social benefits, and it delivers a significant cultural dividend. Our members are a catalyst for this creative ecology. They provide high-value, regionally spread employment, they communicate uniquely Irish stories and they produce an important national export. We recognise this valuable contribution and are committed to moulding an industry where creative entrepreneurship can flourish.
Policy & Advocacy
The aim of SPI’s policy and advocacy work is to create the optimum conditions for the growth and sustainability of our industry – both for incoming and indigenous productions. We are leaders within the creative screen sector, advocating policies to increase investment in public service media, Screen Ireland and other funding bodies. We also press for greater financing of the infrastructure that underpins our industry, such as studio development and the upskilling of crews.
We deal directly with the Government and collaborate with other groups in the screen sector to deliver on these goals. By promoting the work of our members to those who can influence change, we hope to illustrate what our industry can achieve when the right supports and investments are in place.
Sectoral Development
Working with our members and key stakeholders, SPI shapes and future-proofs the independent production industry in Ireland. Sectoral development is a far-reaching area- unpinned by a philosophy of working with stakeholders to deliver on actions and implement initiatives that maintain stability and pave the way for future growth of the sector.
This work includes working to increase the accessibility of funding and diverse funding structures for production, engaging with Unions and representative bodies, negotiating terms of trade, engaging with Broadcasters and industry bodies and acting as a leading voice on industry representative bodies.
In addition to this work, we support creative entrepreneurs that drive our sector by providing resources and connections through networking, learning and development opportunities.
