Oireachtas TV are now seeking ideas for submissions to Round 31 of the BAI Sound and Vision scheme.
With the closing date for the round set for May 10th, they are looking for all ideas to be sent no later than April 20th.
Whilst they are happy to consider historical or culturally themed programmes around the current anniversary year for the Oireachtas, or more general formatted programmes, for this round Oireachtas TV would especially like to see ideas dealing with the following areas:
- Education/awareness of the parliament and the parliamentary process, targeted at audiences studying for Junior and Leaving certificate cycles.
- Ireland and the Houses of the Oireachtas’ relationship with Europe and its parliament.
For the first, they are looking for programmes to be not only informative supplements to the current curriculums, but entertaining and accessible, promoting their goal of Open Parliament. Youth participation in the democratic process is an area which should also be considered. Series proposals are welcome.
For the second,Oireachtas TV is prepared to consider both contemporary and historical examinations of Ireland's relationship with Europe, and both series and stand-alone documentary proposals are welcome. The current Brexit negotiations have only made clearer the strong ties between our country and its neighbours in the EU.
Oireachtas TV has a strong record of showing important debates from the European Parliament and providing analysis from Strasbourg. They would like to continue this tradition with high-end independent programming.
All producers should be aware of Oireachtas TV’s mission of promoting awareness of the institution of parliament and the democratic process in our country – all submissions should be relevant to this mission.
Closing date: Friday, 20th April 2018
Please send all submissions to Donnacha.Mckeon@oireachtas.ie
