On 25 May 2018 the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) takes effect across the EU. This half-day seminar will introduce SPI members to data protection law and give them an understanding of what their obligations will be when the GDPR takes effect.
Date: 22 March 2018
Location: Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Dublin 2 (map here)
Time: 9:30am-11:30am
The main objective of this event is to create an awareness of what comprises ‘personal information’ for data protection purposes and for production companies to put in place processes for:
- Lawfully acquiring personal data from data subjects with appropriate consents from those data subjects (eg contributors to shows, employees and contractors working with companies)
- Auditing what personal information is held by companies
- Storing that personal information securely
- Handling that personal information securely and only for the purposes for which it was obtained, to include necessary disclosure of that information to third parties (eg commissioning broadcasters)
- Erasing that personal information after a period of time – what duration; what protocols for erasure?
- Responding to data subject requests for disclosure of information
- Responding appropriately to data loss / unlawful disclosure situations
Companies need to prepare for this new legislation and be aware that non-compliance with GDPR can lead to fines and civil claims for damages.
This course is designed to demystify the GDPR and give producers the information they need to ensure their business is GDPR compliant.
