This audience likes to watch other children. Strong character-driven ideas and strong narrative work well.
Themes already featured on RTÉjr programmes and which have appeal for this agegroup include growing & cooking (Grubz Up, Dig In Diner ), sport (What’s Your Game?), craft (Makers) , family (Our Farm, Our Seaside, Out & About), pets (I Want A Pet), make&do (Curious World of Professor Fun and Dr Dull; The Art Factory), music (The Beo Show), nature (Forest Force, Wild Things, Shutterbugs, Bughunters) and back-garden antics.
The RTÉjr website and APP are a useful resource for producers seeking to review the content already available to this audience through previous commissions.
It’s essential that ideas in familiar themes offer new and fresh treatment and approach.
Areas of particular interest in this round include:
- Art and Craft: Make and Do for rainy days – straightforward ‘how to make x’ programmes with strong concept and talent. Such a series should ideally be accompanied by online downloadable content.
- Sport: A series which features age-appropriate sports or physical activity. All ideas considered - child/adult challenge, celebrity-led, child/presenter-led concepts are all of interest as is a sport game show style series
- Comedy: always interested in making children laugh
- Cooking.
Programmes commissioned for RTÉjr will have repeatability and a lasting appeal to pre-school children under 7. The series will be for transmission in autumn 2016.
We ask, in the first instance, that producers submit ideas into the eCommissioning system:Click Here under the programme category "Young Peoples – Live Action 2016"
