RTÉjr | YOUNG PEOPLE'S PROGRAMMING | LIVE ACTION
RTÉjr would like to commission a series of short films from the Independent sector which captures the essence of what it is to be a particular age – from 1 up to 7.
In strands of 4 x 1’00” (or 2 x 2’00”) per age – from 1 to 7, each film will be a portrait of what it is to be that age. As interstitials which will play and be repeated right across the autumn schedule and beyond on RTÉjr we are looking for an artistically crafted series of films which portrays the characteristics and features of what it is to that age in a diverse collection of contributions.
Ideally, each film would to feature a range of children who are the age in question, with beautifully shot observations of what they do now that they couldn’t or didn’t do before they turned that age.
No. of Episodes: 28 x 1 minute (or 14 x 2’00”)
Duration: 1’00” or 2’00”
Transmission: RTÉjr (Under 7’s)
Budget: To a maximum of €50,000
So, for example THIS IS ‘6’ would include spoken contributions which might include things like ‘I stay up until 8pm’, ‘I can ride bike with no stabilisers’, ‘I can read my own bedtime story’, ‘I can tell the time’, ‘I went on a sleepover’;
THIS IS ‘2’ would be a more visually driven story seeing 2 year olds trying to jump, repeating words after a sibling, eat food without help, wear real shoes, being territorial with a toy, sing a nursery rhyme;
THIS IS ‘1’ would have a lot of babble and sounds as we see 1 year olds take a first step, show their new tooth, clap their hands, point to their nose and so on.
For a producer/director interested in small children this project is a lovely opportunity to really delve into childhood and observe each age from within their world.
The successful project will address its plans to embrace diversity, showing its ability to bring children from a broad range of backgrounds and cultures living in Ireland to screen. This is an essential facet of this project.
The successful project will bring together a strong team, experienced in producing programmes with and for children and address production model in the context of requirements when working with children. RTÉ’s Child Protection Policy is available to view on the RTÉ commissioning website.
RTÉjr are looking for a creative visual and audio treatment which will make each short film stand out in the schedule.
For reference, KIDSPEAK interstitials which are sprinkled throughout the RTÉjr schedule daily (30” short films), achieve the production values and view from within the world of young children that RTÉjr are targeting for this new series.
The series will be for delivery on or before 23rd September 2016 and for transmission from beginning October 2016.
Please note that this is a short callout time due to delivery and tx deadline.
We ask, in the first instance, that producers submit ideas into the eCommissioning system under the programme category "Live Action June 2016"
Deadline for submissions: Wednesday 15th June 2016 at 12 noon.
