Screen Producers Ireland congratulates Brie Larson and Element Pictures on achieving the Best Actress Oscar for the Lenny Abrahamson directed film ‘Room’, and Ben Cleary on achieving the Best Short Film Oscar for "Stutterer".
SPI CEO Barbara Galavan said:
“This is a well deserved achievement for Element Pictures, a wholly owned Irish company. It is a remarkable achievement for Ben Cleary as a relative newcomer to film directing. Both awards are testament to the depth and strength that exists within the Irish production industry that films written, directed and produced by Irish film makers are recognised with the highest accolade in the business. It illustrates what can be achieved by the Irish film industry when the right environment exists to foster creativity. It is also an opportune moment to remind Government of the need to cultivate Ireland’s screen industry. The first action must be to reinstate adequate funding to the Irish Film Board. By doing so, this hard won Irish success at the Oscars can be built upon to promote further growth in Ireland 's film and television sector".
SPI congratulates all of the Irish nominees for this year’s Academy Awards.
