Irish Industry Trust for IP Awareness publishes National Charter for the Promotion of Legal Film & TV
Mon 10th June 2024
The Irish Industry Trust for IP Awareness, the representative body for the education and communication of copyright awareness and the safe and legal consumption of film, television, and other created content in Ireland, has recently launched a Best Practice Guide and National Charter to encourage accurate and responsible reporting of entertainment in the media. The Trust members represent Sky, Warner Bros. Discovery, Sony Pictures, Disney, and Universal Pictures.
Building on the recent successes of the Irish film and TV industries, with its wealth of economic opportunities and increasing cultural relevance, the Charter recognises that in 2024, people in Ireland are watching more hours of drama, comedy, horror and documentary than ever before - on the biggest to the smallest screens, in cinemas, at home, and on the go. With a clear shift towards streamed internet-based and mobile watching, audiences now have unprecedented options for accessing content, though they may only sometimes know when or where it's available.
The Trust aims to promote the Charter to assist consumers in discovering and enjoying the content they love through legal routes. Additionally, Trust members are committed and available to provide assistance and clarification to journalists regarding questions about release dates and other related topics.
To this end, the Irish Industry Trust has collaborated with partners in the distribution and communications industries to develop a National Charter for the Promotion of Legal Film & TV. The purpose of this charter is to give a clear guideline where there is any confusion around the sourcing and reporting of consumer information related to films, television shows and broadcasts in Ireland, ensuring that reporting about ways to watch and find content respects the value of IP, and always directs audiences to legal routes.
